In the last few hours a controversial request made by the Government of President Gustavo Petro to the President of the United States, Joe Biden, in which he requests that the former commander of the extinct FARC, ‘Simón Trinidad’, be pardoned. after more than 15 years of being sentenced in the United States.
This request was revealed by Noticias Caracol, in which it assures that it was filed through the ambassador to the United States, Daniel García Peña, to the Undersecretary of States for Western Hemisphere Affairs, Brian Nichols.
This request was made in order to ‘Simón Trinidad’ be a peace manager in the negotiation processes that the Government is carrying out with the FARC dissidents, among them the Central General Staff and the Second Marquetalia.

The document sent reads: “I would like to follow up on the official note that I sent to the national security advisor, Jake Sullivan, through which, on behalf of the Government of Colombia, We respectfully request the President of the United States to grant clemency and pardon to Mr. Juvenal Ovidio Ricardo Palmera Pineda”.
In addition, the ambassador requested authorization for a personal visit to ‘Simón Trinidad’ in the Florence Colorado prison, where he is imprisoned.
