Petro asks "truce" to armed groups so that the Public Force can deal with the winter wave

President Gustavo Petro, asked the groups outside the law, a kind of “truce”, so that members of the Public Force are not attacked while serving the population that could be affected by the winter wave that is forecast for the months of September, October and November, according to the Ideam.

From Villavicencio, andhe president also called on the mayors and governors of the country to have the risk maps ready and the permanent relocation of families that may be located in areas at high risk of flooding or landslides is initiated.

“I would hope from the organizations that are out there in arms, that somehow these words will reach them, that knowing the seriousness of what is coming in the middle of a winter wave -where it is time to save people- How terrible it would be if the crossing of the shots also prevented the work in many regions of Colombia“said the president.

President Petro questioned about “how to lead the Army to save families if the ambush is ready on the other side of the corner,” he said, emphasizing that, for example, “the battalions of engineers how they could help them communicate -because surely many bridges will fall- how to rebuild again to communicate the territory, if suddenly, behind the mountain, on the edge, the ambush is ready”.

Petro sent a message to criminal organizations so that, “due to the seriousness of the situation that is approaching, make a truce (…) there are going to come times when the entire Colombian society has to enlist in solidarity,” he said.

According to the president, the Ideam report, that was given to him, warns about the probability that for the next three months there will be heavy rains in at least 40% of the country.

“The soils are collapsing in terms of the amount of water, the rivers are growing, the reservoirs are filling (which are already 98%) and it is not enough to drain -let’s call it that- at this moment, which is a parenthesis and the next internal unit is coming September-October-November, where we will have complicated situations,” he said.
