This Wednesday it was learned that the president of Colombia, Gustavo Petro, asked the government of the United States (USA) to review the sanctions imposed against the Venezuelan airline, Conviasa, which prevent it from making flights to Bogotá.
According to the Colombian Minister of Transportation, Guillermo Reyes, the ambassador of the New Granada nation in the US, Luis Gilberto Murillo, joined the call. Apparently the request was made a couple of weeks ago.
“Our president Gustavo Petro and the Colombian ambassador in Washington have asked the US authorities to review the issue of Conviasa,” said Reyes, referring to the sanctions.
Upon arrival at the Simón Bolívar International Airport of Maiquetía, the official pointed out that “It is not a closed issue.«. He explained that “there are many things to talk about”, since the Colombian side wants «have a space to review frequencies».
The coercive measures imposed by Washington on Conviasa prevented it from inaugurating the frequency of flights between Venezuela and Colombia. Instead, the airline Turpial Airlines made the trips from Caracas to Bogotá.
The Venezuelan airline is currently sanctioned by the US Office of Foreign Assets Control (OFAC). In fact, since March 30, 2004 Conviasa has not made flights between Venezuela and Colombia due to limitations.
