After the decision of Council of State to provisionally suspend the decree that established the increase in the minimum wage for 2026, the president Gustavo Petro responded by defending the measure and ensuring that it complies with the Constitution.
Petro pointed out that the decree already issued includes all economic criteria demanded and that the transitional decree requested by the magistrate will respect the Constitution, although the Government will act in accordance with its legal prerogatives.
The president announced that the Minister of Labor will call an immediate consultation meetingincluding social movements, to analyze the new decree and study its economic impact.
This agreement will be based on recent measurements and studieswhich show the marginal incidence of the living wage on some product prices and the effect of the interest rate on employment, the deficit and inflation.
