The players of the Colombia women’s national team under-17 were received with applause and joy at the Casa de Nariño, by the president Gustavo Petro, after obtaining second place in the world championship in the category that took place in India.
The president recognized them for this historic participation, since it is the first time that a tricolor team reaches a final of a world championship organized by FIFA.

However, in the middle of the tribute in which coach Carlos Paniagua was present, accompanied by the soccer players and together with Vice President Francia Márquez, the first lady, Verónica Alcocer and the Minister of Sports, María Isabel Urrutia, they delivered the a check equal to $525,000,000 million from the state in recognition of their sports dedication, which will be divided among the 21 members of the National Team.
But what caught our attention the most was President Petro’s speech in which he stressed that “There is profound discrimination against women in Colombia” and that they have experienced it firsthand, so she took the opportunity to call on the leaders of the FPC to prioritize gender equality, especially in this sport.
However, Petro did not leave aside the men’s categories and told them: “There is not a women’s soccer league and there is a men’s one. With all due respect to the boys, the girls have obtained more titles than the boysas everyone knows.”
