President Gustavo Petro and the mayor of Bogotá, Carlos Fernando Galán, met in the last few hours to address several key issues for the capital, including the reconstruction of the San Juan de Dios hospital, the strengthening of the electric bus fleet and the commitment to advance the Canoas Wastewater Treatment Plant (WWTP) project with which the Bogotá River will be decontaminated.

The Minister of Health, Guillermo Alfonso Jaramillo, was also present at this meeting, who spoke on the topic of San Juan de Dios. “The national government and the District are committed to its recovery and starting tomorrow we will be working in that direction, to overcome any differences that may exist between the parties,” he assured.

On that topic, The official assured that the Central tower of this hospital (located on the tenth and first avenue) will not be demolished, since this is considered an architectural and cultural icon of Bogotá.

“We consider that this tower must be completely recovered so that it can be a hospital; There are some other approaches on the part of the District, and that is what we are going to focus on starting tomorrow (Thursday), on quickly solving this and continuing with the investments,” he said.

In additionrecalled that both the Mayor of Bogotá and the Government of Cundinamarca and the ministries of Health, Education and Culture participate in the San Juan de Dios recovery project.

Regarding the Canoas WWTP, he said that the joint work “implies the possibility that there is a commitment from Bogotá to clean up the waters, recover the Bogotá River and benefit the Magdalena River – into which the Bogotá River flows – with better water quality.” and to the more than 200 riverside municipalities of the most important river artery in Colombia,” reported the Presidency of the Republic.
