He president of Colombia, Gustavo Petro, emphasized this Thursday that the signing of the Partial Scope Agreement of a Commercial Nature with Venezuela; It is one more step for the integration between nations.
We are here signing a partial Agreement, which is one more step of integration, which should never have been suspended. I believe that the integration process that the brother countries were following in some way, with a common history, should never have been suspended,” Petro said from the state of Táchira.
In statements broadcast by Venezolana de Televisión, he pointed out that this trade agreement not only targets large companies, but also those people who wish to transit – from both nations – for economic development.
“We have signed a trade agreement. We have to fill these trade bridges, remove the barriers that these businesses have to do with, we have enabled those bridges. We have made administrative customs ports, the partial agreement that we have just signed, it is not about these bridges being filled with commerce, but that they are filled with people, who can come and go, I mean small capitals, and that they can perfectly do it without fear, without fears, “said the president.
It should be remembered that this partial agreement No. 28, that “regulates the bilateral trade of goods and addresses aspects such as dispute settlement, among others” had not been reviewed since it entered into force in 2012.
With the agreement, the institutionality is preserved “because it is also part of the agreements of the Latin American Integration Association (Adali), under the understanding that the two countries respect the World Trade Organization (WTO).” and that the objective is “to favor a more balanced trade, development and growth that benefits both countries.”
The Colombian president stressed the importance of not repeating the mistakes that were generated in the past, and that – today – seeks to create a 1933 on a global scale, where brother countries “seek to kill” each other.
This situation – referring to the events that are taking place in Europe – “Colombia and Venezuela cannot follow, we are brothers, we are the same people, culture always shows the connections that exist between peoples. We found that it is the same reality, it is the same story, it is the same roots”, emphasized Petro.
In the same way, he recalled that it is necessary to leave behind the human rights violations that occurred at the border, after it was handed over to the mafias by previous efforts.
“This line does not mean much, we have separated out of pride, it is there but it should not separate us, what was built on these trails, a systematic violation of human rights, violation against women, the delivery of this line to the mafias, that they made their domains, “he said.
“It cannot happen again, here there must be a legality to protect the rights of the people, on both sides of the line that well deserves that public and state protection, so that they can build those policies,” he added. .
