Ten months after the expiration of the term for the legitimization of collective labor agreements in companies, the number of requests intensified by union organizations and increased by 150 percent, going from 400 to more than a thousand requests per month during the first half of the year, said José Amado Sosa Dueñas, director of the area at the Federal Center for Conciliation and Labor Registration.

Official data reveals that to date 5,066 collective contracts have been legitimized throughout the country, which has meant the participation of one million 552,788 workers at the federal level who ratified their working conditions through personal, free, direct vote. and secret.
The Ministry of Labor and Social Welfare estimates that, in the best of cases, 10,000 to 15,000 contracts will be legitimized, out of a universe of 550,000. The purpose is to purge the protection or inactive agreements deposited before the Conciliation and Arbitration Boards.
The process established in the labor reform, to which the unions are obliged to comply, expires on May 1, 2023. The authorities of the sector have warned that there will be no extension to comply, so after that date they will be terminated. .
This scenario, Sosa Dueñas pointed out, opens the possibility for any union to claim ownership of agreements with a certain company, but they must prove that they have the support of the workers and request proof of representativeness.
To comply with the legitimation process, the official stressed that the corporations have the obligation to grant facilities to carry out the consultation and deliver the printed collective contract to their workers; otherwise, and three days before the vote, the union will have to do it.
At the last cut there are 646 consultations scheduled, mainly from corporate headquarters for the coming weeks, according to data from the Federal Conciliation Center. Sosa said that there is enough staff in the Ministry of Labor to validate processes.
