Pet funeral home scammed owners: they threw away the bodies and gave fake ashes with dirt

The case has generated widespread outrage over the cruel treatment of the remains and the way in which people were defrauded in a moment of vulnerability after the loss of their pet.

Reports indicate that, for more than three years, the “Xibalbá” crematorium, located in the Barrio Bravo neighborhood, operated without municipal, health or environmental permits.

Its owner, Guillermo Alejandro “N”, presented himself as an animal lover and offered supposedly professional cremation services, for which he charged between 1,500 and 2,500 pesos.

They threw the bodies into vacant lots.

According to the investigations, the bodies of the animals were put in plastic bags and thrown in vacant land located a few meters from the funeral home, near the Court for Women’s Justice.

Upon inspecting the site, authorities discovered that the cremation ovens had never been used and that the business did not have permits, even though it allegedly operated for years offering cremation services.

In nearby lots, around 150 bodies of pets were found inside bags, many in a state of decomposition. To date, at least 80 complaints have been filed from affected people.

The owner of the funeral home and his assistant are arrested

After the complaints, the Quintana Roo Prosecutor’s Office He arrested Guillermo Alejandro “N” and Briseidy “N”. He was the owner of the crematorium, while she was in charge of charging for services and organizing symbolic farewell ceremonies.

Both face accusations of fraud and damage caused to the environment due to the way they disposed of the bodies.

Governor Mara Lezama assured that there will be no impunity in this case and that justice will be guaranteed to the families who were deceived. The Prosecutor’s Office asked those who have hired the services of that funeral home to come forward to report, to strengthen the investigations and punish those responsible.
