A group of Peruvians remains trapped in Jamaica after the passage of Hurricane Melissa.
Those affected assure that they have not received direct attention from the Peruvian government, despite the fact that local authorities have closed airports and declared alert for the damage caused.
Jorge del Río, one of the stranded citizens, pointed out that “no one has called us or cared about our situation” and added that “until now we have had to move on our own,” while the hotel where they are staying begins to run out of food and water.
The Montego Bay international airport remains closed, making it difficult for Peruvians to return.
Other routes and transportation routes are also affected, complicating access to basic services.
According to witnesses, the hotel has started rationing food and water, and the Peruvian consulate indicated that they were waiting for the airport to reopen, without defining a specific date.
The Ministry of Foreign Affairs confirmed that 14 citizens remain stranded and that consular assistance has been activated.
