The Peruvian Society of Liquefied Gas (SPGL) warned this Wednesday to the Ministry of Energy and Mines (Minem) that the supply of liquefied petroleum gas (LPG) in the country could be complicated in the coming days.
Through a letter addressed to the head of the Minem, Alessandra Herrera, the president of the SPGL, Samuel Vásquez, assures that this crisis could affect 8 million households that consume LPG.
“As your office is aware, the supply of LPG is being affected at the national level not only for climatic reasons that generate abnormal waves and difficulties in the arrival of ships at port, but also due to shortage problems in the north of Peru, which It forces the migration of all those volumes to Callao, where today there are lower delivery quotas and, consequently, concentrating all the differentials in the Pisco area”, the letter reads.
He stressed that, in addition, regulatory aspects discourage imports and generate obstacles to the normal flow of marketing.

“All this is summed up in a crisis of LPG supply that can have harsh consequences for the 8 million households that consume it and the thousands of taxi drivers“, said.
urgent measures
In this sense, the LPG union affirms that it has been alerting the authorities about this risk and its impacts on Peruvian consumers and households, but assures that it has not been able to obtain a response to its concerns.
Given the need to adopt emergency measures, Vásquez points out that it is necessary that all the actors in the LPG chain be called urgently in order to adopt joint actions that allow mitigating the impacts of lower supply in the short term and guarantee normal supply in the coming weeks.
“We are at your disposal to collaborate proactively for the execution of solutions for the benefit of consumers and the country.”, the document ends.
