Peruvian press received 740 attacks during Dina Boluarte's government, says ANP

The National Association of Journalists (ANP) published a report in which they conclude and denounce that, since Dina Boluarte assumed the presidency on December 7, 2022, a total of 740 attacks have been recorded on journalists and media outlets, as well as men and women who practice journalism. According to the registration of the ANP Human Rights Officeall this confrontation took place during the first 731 days of the president’s administration Boluarte Zegarra.

In this report, it is detailed that those who suffered the most during the president’s administration were the digital media due to the high rate of threats and harassment during these two years of Government. Likewise, the ANP denounces that “these attacks are not only limited to physical or verbal attacks, but also include legislative threats, cyber attacks, and judicial pressure, which affect both the safety of journalists and their ability to report freely.”

Dina Boluarte: who received the greatest attacks during the Government?

According to the record of the Human Rights Office of the National Association of Journalists (ANP)among the main victims of attacks on the press – journalists, media – are digital and television, radio and written media. Likewise, men were more affected than women, with 387 and 161 attacks, respectively.

Below is the list of the main victims during the Government of Dina Boluarte:

  • Digital media: 327 attacks.
  • Television media: 197 attacks.
  • Radio media: 117 attacks.
  • Written media: 99 attacks.
  • Media: 192 attacks.

Dina Boluarte: what were the attacks on journalists and media outlets like?

According to the registry of the Human Rights Office of the National Association of Journalists (ANP)the attacks on journalists and media outlets were divided between threats and harassment, physical and verbal aggression, obstacles to access to information, judicial intimidation, among others. Likewise, robberies, arrests, attempted homicides and cyberattacks are recorded.

  • Detention: 11
  • Attempted homicide: 3

  • Public officials: 217 attacks.
  • Security agents: 170 attacks.
