During the so-called “Take of Lima” that took place on January 18 and 19, the demonstrators have been causing excesses, chaos and anxiety in the main streets of downtown Lima during clashes with the police. In this sense, those who have also suffered attacks by the population are the men and women of the press from at least 8 media outlets. For that reason, the Peruvian Press Council spoke out and strongly rejected the attacks on journalists.
Through a statement published on social networks, the civil association regrets that they have been triggered “cowardly attacks on journalists from at least eight media outlets, including others who work independently” in the midst of the protests registered in Lima and the northern and southern regions of the country.
On the other hand, the civil organization, which defends the rights of men and women of the press, also asked the members of the National Police of Peru that protects the physical integrity of the journalists who are in the place of the demonstrations and who suffer the violence of the protestersbecause the press does its job “for the sake of transmitting valuable information to the public.”
