The Peruvian Medical Federation (FMP) announced that starting tomorrow, Wednesday, October 12, a 48-hour national strike will begin to demand job improvements for health professionals who belong to this union.
This was stated by Dr. Danilo Salazar Oré, president of the FMP, in dialogue with RPP Noticias. In this way, the protest measure will be in force during October 12 and 13.
“About twenty days ago we held a national assembly like the other unions such as the nurses’ federation, the obstetricians’ federation and others where this 48-hour strike was concluded precisely to ask for four fundamental things”, he referred.
Among the demands is the increase in the health budget to 6% of GDP, compliance with the fourth section of the salary scale, automatic promotion to the corresponding level and the appointment of 100% for doctors hired under the regular CAS modality, position 276 and CLAS.
“One is the appointment of regular CAS workers who have been on the same salary for 7 years. In addition, during the pandemic they have been with the same salary and many of them earn less than the minimum wage.”, indicated Dr. Salazar Oré.
“The second thing is the automatic promotion that should take place every five years and in recent years it has not been taking place and the last thing is the fulfillment of the fourth section of the salary scale that has been promised by the President of the Republic himself, the Minister of Health, the Minister of Economy, but unfortunately that is not reflected in the draft budget for 2023″, added the head of the Peruvian Medical Federation.
Measures to prevent patients from being affected are not yet known; however in the call for the 48-day strike (October 12 and 13) indicates that if their claims are not addressed, this union will go on indefinite strike.
