Peruvian government promotes nuclear energy to electrify remote areas (VIDEO)

The Minister of Energy and Mines, Rómulo Mucho, signed the formation of the working group at the ministerial level to develop nuclear energy in Peru. The goal is to bring electricity to remote places.

The working group, called the Electrical Core, plans to implement electricity plants based on nuclear energy. The Peruvian Institute of Nuclear Energy (IPEN) has been developing projects for the population for 50 years, such as the treatment of 65,000 cancer patients annually and the irradiation of seeds to withstand climate changes.

IPEN has the RP-10 nuclear reactor, which is a research reactor with uranium enriched to 20%. Nuclear energy is considered the cleanest and most efficient in generating electricity.

The nuclear energy project in Peru could materialize in 10 years, with a significant impact on regions such as Loreto and Iquitos.
