Peruvian economy grew 3.33% in the first semester

The Peruvian economy registered a growth of 3.33% in the first half of the year, mainly driven by the expansion of the services, manufacturing and trade sectors. According to the INEI, these three items explained a third of the total variation.

In the services sector, he highlighted the advance of the activity of transport, storage, mail and messaging, which grew 6.17%.
“Air transport increased 9.63%, due to an 8% increase in passenger transport, in response to the greater demand for national flights, with destinations such as Lima, Cusco, Arequipa, Tarapoto, Iquitos, Chiclayo, Pucallpa and Juliaca,” said the INEI.

The statistical entity said that, in the international arena, he highlighted the greatest demand for flights to Santiago de Chile, Madrid, Bogotá, Buenos Aires, Panama City and Sao Paulo.

Regarding the manufacturing sector, in the analysis period an accumulated variation of 3.1%, the result of the greater production of the non -primary manufacturing subsector (2.1%) and the primary manufacturing (5.75%) was reported.
“The positive performance of the primary subsector was associated with the greatest production in the branches of preparation and conservation of fish, crustaceans and mollusks (27.5%), manufacture of products of the oil refining (10.3%) and elaboration and conservation of meat (2.6%). In contrast, the manufacture of primary products of precious metals and other non -ferrous metals recorded a variation of -6.4%and Sugar elaboration, of -8.1%, ”said the INEI.

On the side of the commerce sector, this registered an advance of 3.2%. Wholesale trade grew 3%, influenced by the sale of liquid fuels, soda and related products such as lubricants, fats and oils.

Retail trade accumulated an increase of 3.2%, driven by the sale of fuels in taps and self -services, given the greater demand of the automotive park. Sales in supermarkets, minimarkets, discount and convenience stores, due to the demand for essential products, the variety offered and commercial strategies, also increased.

Likewise, the automotive trade showed an increase of 5.2%, explained by the sale of motor vehicles, supported by campaigns such as “Toyotamás”, “Motor Peru 2025”, “Automotive Festival”, “The Great Expo Truck of the Mega Puerto de Chancay 2025”, “Neofest 2025” and “Peru 2025 Exposech vehicular, opening of establishments, diversification of brand portfolios and financial facilities.

Other sectors

Regarding the performance of other relevant sectors in the economy, the agriculture advanced 3%, mining and 1.5%hydrocarbons and construction 5.2%. He also highlighted the rebound in the fishing sector, which grew 5% in the first semester.

An important fact is that the economy began to show signs of slowdown in June. According to the INEI, although production grew that month 4.52%, when the seasonal effect was recorded, a 0.21%drop was recorded, which reflects less dynamism towards the coming months.
