Peruvian agricultural exports: the United States remains the leading destination

The (traditional and non-traditional) totaled more than US$ 1,736 million in the first two months of this year, obtaining a growth of 30% compared to the same period in 2021, with the United States being its leading market, indicated the Association of Exporters ().

According to the manager of Agroexports of the business association, Susana Yturry Farge, the signing of commercial agreements was fundamental for the evolution of these dispatches, particularly those of added value, as well as the work of the National Agricultural Health Service (Senasa), in order to lift sanitary and phytosanitary barriers.

He mentioned that companies must also develop commercial strategies in order to reach more international buyers. Likewise, he highlighted the participation in trade missions to Chile, Spain and Mexico and fairs such as Thaifex (Thailand), Biofach (Germany) and the Expoalimentaria (EA) fair in Peru.

According to the ADEX Data Trade Commercial Intelligence System, in the first two months of 2022, traditional shipments (US$ 258 million) accounted for 14.9% of total agro-exports and an increase of 362.4%. Coffee, with US$ 248 million, had a participation of 95.9% and achieved a growth of 460.6%. In second place was the other cane sugars.

The USA (US$ 60 million) stood out as the main market –representation of 23.1% and an increase of 495.6%–, followed by Germany (US$ 55 million) with a concentration of 21.2% and an increase in its orders of 511.6 %. Completing the top ten were Belgium, Colombia, Sweden, France, Italy, Canada, the United Kingdom and South Korea.

Non-traditional agrarian shipments (US$ 1,477 million) achieved a share of 85% of the total and an increase of 15.4%. Its leading product was grapes with US$ 576 million (39% representation and an increase of 19.7%). Fresh or dried mangoes, blueberries, uncooked mangoes or mangoes cooked in water or steam, and asparagus completed the top five.

There were 108 destinations, the US (US$ 570 million) ranked number one with 38.6% concentration and an increase of 19.5%. It was followed by the Netherlands ($194 million), Hong Kong, Spain and China. Within the top 10 were Mexico, Ecuador, Canada, Chile and South Korea.
