The main open innovation program of the mining sector in the country, which was born from the alliance between the Institute of Mining Engineers of Peru (IIMP) and the Mining Innovation Hub, PERUMIN Hub, presented its third edition, together with a strategic meeting that brought together more than 15 leaders of the main mining companies in Peru, with the aim of analyzing and prioritizing the main challenges of the sector and that they can become an opportunity for collaborative innovation .
The representatives of Antapaccay, Chinalco, MINSUR, Antamina, Gold Fields, Alpayana, Buenaventura, Southern Peaks Mining, Apumayo, Minera Bateas, Anglo American, among others, agreed that innovation is a fundamental part of facing the challenges of the mining industry, as well as such as working with communities and the synergy that can be created with them, for the generation of sustainable development.
PERUMIN Hub announced that this year there will be a new line of work and it will be developed continuously. In this sense, the program will have as central events PERUMIN 36 Mining Convention, for “Innovations that take off”, and another to be held in September 2024, for “Young people who transform”.
“The innovative community of PERUMIN Hub continues to grow. In the first two editions we aimed at mature solutions that had a pilot to be validated in the field, and successful solutions recently validated in a mining company. This year we are going one step further, aiming to develop young talent through an immersive innovation program that transforms ideas into potential pilots with clear objectives”said Pamela Antonioli, general manager of the Hub.
Likewise, it was mentioned that, in previous years, a portfolio of more than 80 projects has been achieved that have generated interest in mining companies; having more than 50% of these in evaluation processes and three as success stories, one implemented and two in implementation processes.
Along the same lines, Rafael Estrada, president of PERUMIN Hub, highlighted that the program is a fundamental space to promote and accelerate innovation in a sector full of opportunities. “Beyond the program, the purpose is to build a portfolio of projects with the most outstanding innovations, which will not only be disseminated to companies in the industry, but will also have the monitoring and support of the Mining Innovation Hub of Peru, through in order to maintain visibility and rapprochement between innovators and companies” pointed out.
