Peru: third country with the most reported cases of monkeypox

According to the Our World Data platform, the cases of monkeypox accumulated in Peru during the last seven days, per million inhabitants, put the country behind only Spain and the United States.

The Ministry of Health (Minsa) reported on Tuesday, August 16, that confirmed cases rose to 867. It was specified that those infected correspond to metropolitan Lima (712), Lima provinces (7), Callao (55), La Libertad (42), Arequipa (18), Cusco (6), Piura (5), Ica (4), Loreto (3), Áncash (3), Cajamarca (2), Junín (2), Huánuco (2), Lambayeque (2), Ucayali (2) and Tacna (1).

According to the latest information detailed by the Minsa, 64.1% of those infected are people with the human immunodeficiency virus (HIV).

The authorities indicated that 81.9% of patients receive antiretroviral therapy, and that 18.2% have a history of syphilis in the last year.

The Minsa urged the population to maintain the prevention measures already disseminated by the authorities, including reducing contact with people suspected of having the infection, washing their hands frequently, wearing a mask correctly, maintaining social distancing and isolating themselves. in case of presenting the characteristic symptoms of this disease.
