Peru has a series of challenges, but one of its main objectives should be the reduction of poverty (which in 2024 hit 27.4% of people), assured the president of Confiep, Jorge Zapata.
“We have a territory, a nation, a history. Let’s get that territory out of that condition of mediocrity, of poverty and we have to do that by committing ourselves. (…) Peru needs a message that really brings development,” he said during the XI Meeting of Business Leaders that takes place at the University of Lima.
The union representative stated that one of the main barriers to lifting people out of poverty is the overregulation that exists in the country and questioned the fact that access to services has not improved despite having more resources.
“Today Peru has more than S/250,000 million in budget, but 20 years ago it was S/35,000 million. It has multiplied by seven, we should have improved our services seven times, (…) but we have probably worsened in the services provided by the State,” he indicated.
For his part, the president of ComexPerú, Alonso Rey, pointed out that the only way to reduce poverty is with private investment. However, he assured that this disbursement is discouraged when there is instability in the country.
“The main barrier that the entrepreneur, the businessman, has is the State that does not work, that puts obstacles and more obstacles and that generates corruption. For example, to develop a mining company in Peru you need 400 permits and licenses and that takes eight years,” he added.
Meanwhile, the president of AGAP, Gabriel Amaro, assured that what is needed in the country is a reform of the State that allows taking advantage of the potential that Peru has to grow and be a developed country.
“You have to try to be the first in everything, vote well so that the country is managed well, but you also have to get involved, whether in the public sector or with the company,” he said, making the call to young people.
