The Peru Libre bench remains with 21 congressmen after the resignation of congressman Jorge Marticorena, who presented his letter to the spokesman in the context in which the political group voted in majority in favor of censoring the minister Betssy Chavez.
The letter released after the vote highlights that the parliamentary groups are made up of congressmen who share “similar common ideas and interests.”
“However, this reason is diluted in the bench, becoming more visible in recent days; the same that makes permanence in said space unsustainable, for which the undersigned has made the decision to present my resignation to the Free Peru Parliamentary Group”is indicated in the letter of resignation.
Jorge Marticorena becomes the 16th congressman to resign from the Peru Libre caucus, which began the current parliamentary term with 37 members and now has only 21.
Some of the resignations formed the Democratic Peru block, which currently has 7 members, and the most recent resignations formed the Magisterial Block, which has 11 legislators.
Censorship against Betssy Chávez
The Minister of Labor and Employment Promotion was censured by a majority vote of the full Congress. Among the benches that supported the departure of the official from this position there were votes from Peru Libre and a vote from the Parliamentary Bloc.
Jorge Marticorena was one of the seven votes of Free Peru against censorship.
