According to the data presented by Zetti Gavelán, vice president of the Institute of Mining Engineers of Peru (IIMP), at a conference at the College of Engineers of Lima, the execution phase exploration projects reach US $ 252.7 million, while those those Waiting for environmental authorization total US $ 263.2 million. In the environmental evaluation phase, an investment of US $ 128.4 million was recorded.
Of the total explorations that are currently being executed, copper leads with an investment of US $ 138.7 million, while gold/silver has a participation of US $ 87.3 million. This figure reflects the great interest generated by the presence of these metals for investment in Peru.
“The balance of the year has not been dazzling, but much better than in previous years. And there we see how we have the star metals that we have in the execution. The most in the wallet is copper, but we also have gold and silver. And that is certainly driven by high gold prices, ”said IIMP vice president.
Outstanding projects
According to the Mining Statistine of the Ministry of Energy and Mines (Minem), there are 32 Exploration projects in the execution phase today. Among them, those with the greatest investment are YUMPAG-CARAMA and QUICAY II, both located in the Pasco region, and the Picha project, in Moquegua.
Of the 32 exploration projects, the Ancash and Arequipa regions lead in number of initiatives, with seven and six development projects, respectively. The copper stands out as the most demanded mineral, with 18 projects, it follows gold with 5 and silver with 4.
