Lima, Peru | AFP | The Peruvian government announced this Saturday an “environmental emergency” for 90 business days in the coastal area damaged by the spill of 6,000 barrels of crude a week ago on the central coast.

With this measure, the authorities plan to carry out “sustainable management of the affected territories”, with the respective “recovery and remediation work” to mitigate contamination.

The spill has already affected 21 beaches and caused the death of various marine species, while causing economic concern.
