Peru could face a weak El Niño Phenomenon starting in April, Enfen warns

The ENFEN Multisector Committee warned that Peru could face a weak El Niño phenomenon from April to October 2026.

According to its spokesperson, Luis Vásquez, the country is currently in a neutral climatic condition, although Forecast models project a transition towards a mild warm phase, based on the analysis of various technical and scientific institutions.

In statements to Channel NLuis Vásquez specified that The heavy rains recently recorded in some regions of the country are not linked to the El Niño phenomenon, since it has not yet started.

For the summer period, between January and March, sRainfall behavior is expected to be within normal ranges, although in March there could be rainfall above average in certain areas.

Given the possible evolution towards a weak NiñoEnfen announced that it will issue biweekly reports to keep the authorities and the population informed.

Likewise, he urged national and local governments to adopt preventive measures in advance, in order to reduce possible impacts on the most vulnerable areas of the country.
