Tonight, the Executive spoke about the crisis that is being experienced in Venezuela. After the kidnapping and release of the opposition leader, María Corina Machado, she sent a statement condemning the repressive acts.
“The Government of Peru expresses its serious concern and strong condemnation of the increase and severity of complaints of acts of repression, persecution, arbitrary detentions and kidnappings against members of the democratic opposition and their families by the Venezuelan regime,” he said.
Furthermore, he emphasized that: “The Government of Peru demands unrestricted respect for the freedom of expression and political participation of Venezuelans, and demands the immediate release of all people arbitrarily detained.”
As recalled, Foreign Minister Elmer Schialer traveled to Panama to meet with Edmundo González Urrutia, the winner of the elections in the plains country.
