Óscar Ibáñez The coach of Peru When communicating the Peruvian Football Federation (FPF) the termination of its contract, although on Monday the coach, of Argentine origin, had assured that it would stay until the friendlies of next November. In a statement issued a few hours ago, the FPF expressed its “most sincere thanks to Professor Ibáñez and his technical command for the responsibility and commitment assumed in the conduct of the selection during the last six days of the qualifiers.”
Ibáñez assumed the direction of the Bicolor at the beginning of this year with the mission of looking for a feat that allowed Peru to reach the World Cup, something that finally did not happen and left the Peruvian team outside the next World Cup event. Under his direction, the Peruvian team made five points in the last six dates of the Qualifiers, when achieving a triumph, two draws and three losses, same records as his predecessor, the Uruguayan Jorge Fossati, who also directed Peru in six qualifiers meetings.

Thus, Peru closed its worst performance in qualifiers by adding only 12 points, one less than the 13 that it achieved in the process for the 2010 World Cup in South Africa. The FPF said that now “the Peruvian team initiates a new era with optimism and vision of the future”, as part of its so -called institutional restructuring plan, “a process of transformation aimed at strengthening its technical, sports and administrative capabilities.”
In that sense, the Federation determined that “the election of the new technical command of the absolute selection will be the result of an exhaustive evaluation, in which a profile aligned with the strategic vision of the FPF will be prioritized.”
