He also said that fish oil production increased by 10% in the period under review.

According to the entity, in both cases, the growth was a consequence of the first anchovy fishing season in Peru, “the country that has the greatest impact on global figures.”

It should be noted that according to data from the Ministry of Production, the first anchovy fishing season in the north-central zone (which began in April and ended in July 2024) reached a landing of more than 2.4 million tons, which represented 98.2% of the assigned quota.

The main ports where landings took place during that season were Malabrigo, Chimbote, Coishco, Callao, Supe, Chancay and Tambo de Mora, according to Produce.

Negative results

According to IFFO, the Peruvian Marine Institute (Imarpe) is currently conducting a research cruise to assess the biomass situation and determine how much the second fishing season would cost.

He also pointed out that, unlike the Peruvian economy, in other countries fish supplies for production have registered negative results, as is the case in the United States, China and European countries. Meanwhile, in Chile, landings fell in the first quarter in the southern region, but increased in its northern zone.

Please note

This year, the fishing sector is expected to record a growth of 25%, according to the multiannual macroeconomic framework. This would be the highest rate since 2028.

The main reception plants for the landing were TASA, Exalmar, Copeinca, Diamante and Hayduk.

According to the Executive, the first fishing season required 12,000 direct jobs and 37,000 indirect jobs.
