Peru and Hong Kong began the first round of trade negotiations for the signing of the Free Trade Agreement (FTA), reported the Minister of Foreign Trade and Tourism, Luis Fernando Helguero.
According to the official, the first round was held virtually, for some groups, from January 30 to February 3, while other groups will meet in person from February 6 to 10.
“The negotiation of a FTA with Hong Kong and its future subscription allows us to consolidate the zero-tariff treatment for our products, giving certainty, predictability and advantage to Peruvian exporters. As Hong Kong is the third destination for our non-traditional exports in Asia, this FTA it will provide a further boost to our shipments,” he said.

On the other hand, he revealed that during the last five years, bilateral trade between Peru and Hong Kong has been favorable for our country. In 2022 alone, Peruvian exports to that economy reached US$262 million.
That year, Hong Kong became the third destination for non-traditional shipments from Peru to Asia.
