Perishables rise in price in Nicaraguan markets, potatoes increase up to 10 córdobas per pound

Perishables go up in price this week. As of this Sunday, July 9, vegetables such as potatoes and tomatoes registered increases of up to 10 córdobas. This is confirmed by a monitoring carried out by the Consumer Manager Consulting.

Nicaraguan families have recently seen the momentary drop in the price of potatoes. In the coming days they will buy it at 25 and 30 córdobas per pound. The previous week, a pound of this highly consumed food cost between 20 and 22 córdobas per pound. The tomato, which is also used constantly in the kitchen, is quoted in different markets of the capital at 35 and 40 córdobas for half a bucket, prices change in relation to the quality of the products.

The dozen chiltoma is up to 80 cordobas, which also registers an increase of 5 cordobas. Cabbage, for its part, maintains a high value that exceeds 100 córdobas, according to producers, due to its scarcity.

Dry cheese is another product that in the Iván Montenegro Market registers a rise in its price. Per pound it is quoted between 60 and 62 córdobas. The merchants point out that when buying a larger quantity, as in the case of grocery store owners who resell this product, they can buy it at 50 córdobas per pound.

In some markets in the capital, until last week it maintained its value. It ranged between 70 and 75 córdobas.

Shelf stable chicken and egg carton

The price of chicken did not show changes. The whole leg piece is quoted at 55 córdobas per pound; the breast with wing, between 60 and 65 córdobas. These are the highest prices that have been paid in recent months for these cuts, which are the most sought after.

The egg box for its part suffered an increase at the end of June. Its price remains between 165 and 170 córdobas per box, depending on the size.

Rice is between 21 and 30 córdobas per pound depending on the quality of the grain; beans, whose price remains high, remains between 35 and 36 córdobas per pound. While sugar remains between 14 and 15 córdobas per pound.

Bulk oil is quoted at 50 córdobas per liter in the Roberto Huembes market. This price survey was carried out in three of the main capital markets.
