The Office of the Special Prosecutor for the Persecution of Administrative Corruption (Pepca) presented this Friday a formal accusation against Alexis Medina and the other defendants in the Pulpo case, more than a week after being intimidated by a judge for such purposes.
The documents were deposited before the coordinating judge of the National District Investigative Courts, Kenya Romero, who will now have to carry out a lottery to empower a court that will hear the preliminary hearing against the defendants.
Today, Judge Yanibet Rivas is scheduled to review the measure of coercion of the defendants, however, as the anti-corruption prosecutors have presented the accusation, the hearing is without effect, since another court will be empowered, which, then, will decide on the coercive measures that weigh against the accused.
The head of Pepca, Wilson Camacho, in recent days revealed that there could be new defendants in this corruption case.
Pepca had to present an accusation on Monday, December 6, but as he did, on Wednesday 8, Judge Yanibet Rivas, of the Third Investigative Court of the National District, the court that had control of the case, ordered them to deposit the accusatory brief. within 15 days or otherwise the case had been closed.
Camacho had said they were analyzing the latest information obtained, including the audits that the Chamber of Accounts had sent them, at the request of the prosecuting body.
For the case, Alexis Medina, who is accused of directing a network of corruption and money laundering, is kept in preventive detention at the Najayo-Hombres Correction and Rehabilitation Center; Fernando Rosa, former president of the Patrimonial Fund of Reformed Companies (Fonper); and the alleged front men of Alexis, Wacal Méndez Pineda and José Dolores Santana.
Under house arrest are Francisco Pagán, former director of the dissolved Office of State Works Supervising Engineers (Oisoe); Aquiles Christopher, former Director of Inspection of the aforementioned entity; that Freddy Hidalgo, former Minister of Health; and Rafael Germosén, former comptroller general of the Republic, and Suriel Suazo, alleged front man of Alexis Medina,
Carmen Magalys Medina, former vice president of Fonper, remains in a controlled space with an electronic locator and Domingo Santiago, also an alleged front man.
