People with disabilities will have special attention

Personas con discapacidad tendrán atención especial

people with visual and hearing impairment who go to telecommunications providers will be served by a person who handles the Braille system and sign language so that they can more easily access the services they require, announced yesterday the Dominican Telecommunications Institute (Indotel).

When presenting the letter of rights and duties of users of public services for people with visual, hearing, physical and cognitive disabilities, the president of the Board of Directors of Indotel, Nelson Brookexplained that this is part of the actions that they develop together with the National Disability Council (Conadis) and the providers Altice, Claro, Viva and Wind Telecom.

Arroyo indicated that ramps will also be placed so that people with wheelchairs have greater accessibility.

“Eighteen collaborators from the department of user assistance, reception and development of human talent were trained in sign language by the Dominican Technical Institute of Multiple Intelligences and the Hands Foundation that Inspire to be able to provide an inclusive service to users.

Arroyo explained that Indotel will be delivering a thousand copies in Braille of the Charter of Rights and Duties of Telecommunications Users to each of the service providers, who will distribute them nationwide at their customer service centers.

He added that the institution continues to carry out inspections at different points of sale of service providers to ensure accessibility rights for all.

The act was headed by Arroyo, as well as the executive director of Indotel, Julissa Cruz; Mary Pimentelexecutive director of Conadis; Daniel Genevarepresentative of Dominican Altice: Carlos Cuetofrom Claro Dominicana; Mark Herrera, CEO of Viva; Y Joseph Classpresident of Wind Telecom.

Senators Faride Raful and Lía Díaz were also present, as well as Príamo Ramírez, Hilda Polanco, Fausto Rosario, Alexis Cruz Rodríguez and Francina Hungary, from various foundations that work for people with different types of disabilities.

Also in attendance were Elupina Almonte, executive director of the Dominican Association of Broadcasters (Adora), and Claudia García, executive director of Comtec, among others.
