Santiago Rodríguez, an expert in Latin American politics, pointed out that Venezuelans really want the National Commission of Primaries to be the one that manages the process and not be influenced by political organizations. He clarifies that the so-called “traditional parties” do not have a chance by themselves, so the door can be opened to eventual consensus to strengthen their position.
The university professor and specialist in Latin American politics, Santiago Andrés Rodríguez, considers that Venezuela is currently experiencing a stage similar to that recorded in the 1990s, where there was discontent with the political parties and when the figure of Hugo Chávez appeared as ” savior”.
“Venezuelan people have not been depoliticized, but have been dispersed. He does not want to know anything about the political parties, but he has not lost his condition to participate in politics, as is demonstrated by the mobilization that is registered daily to make his social claim felt, “he explained.

In an interview with the newspaper Momentum, Rodríguez stated that the population has a significant interest in participating in the primaries promoted by the so-called Unitary Platform. However, he warns that citizens would bet more on candidates outside the G-3 or G-4, such as the coordinator of Vente Venezuela, María Corina Machado, or Benjamín Rausseo; known as “Er Conde del Guácharo”.
In the same way, he pointed out that Venezuelans really want the National Commission of Primaries, chaired by Jesús María Casal, to be the one that organizes the process. However, he assured that the administration of Nicolás Maduro does not have the slightest interest in holding these primaries because it would be the first time they have chosen an opposition candidate.
It also clarifies that the so-called “traditional parties” do not have a chance by themselves; so he believes that the possibilities of consensus open up to consolidate their forces and strengthen candidates for primaries.

In this sense, applicants like Andrés Velásquez, Henrique Capriles and Manuel Rosales are not well regarded because they are considered part of the problem; coupled with the fact that the majority of the population is not aligned with the parties.
«Political parties are necessary and play a fundamental role for there to be democracy. However, they have suffered great wear and tear and at this moment, the figure that counterbalances Maduro is not going to leave the games, I can assure you of that. He is going to come out of a figure that really embodies the change, an independent, an outsider, one of those who participates in those primaries,” said Rodríguez.
He considered that the military will be aware of what happens in the primaries and after the presidential elections, adding that they will respect the results regardless of the result.
