Penitentiary System registers a single active case of Covid-19 in recent weeks

A single active positive case of Covid-19 was reported this afternoon by the General Directorate of the Penitentiary System (DGSP) that is registered in one of the country’s prisons.

Of the 3,885 cases registered within the DGSP, the entity revealed that 3,875 have recovered, one remains active and 10 have died, the entity reported in a statement updating the behavior of Covid-19 in recent weeks.

This active case is located in the isolation area of ​​the Tinajitas prison, where 196 cases had been registered to date, but 195 detainees were recovered.

“Coordinated work is being carried out with the Ministry of Health to provide expedited medical attention to the population deprived of liberty in penitentiary centers in the last week. Coordinated work is carried out with the Ministry of Health to provide care,” they revealed.

The communication issued by the authorities reveals that in the prisons that have registered the most cases are Penonomé with 640 cases, Cefere with 522, in Nueva Joya with 436 and in Santiago 420 cases. All these cases have been recovered.

They highlighted that the rules of hand washing, use of masks, physical distancing, cleaning, among others, are still in force to reduce the risks of contagion.
