Peñarol defeated Cerro Largo 2-0

Rodrigo Saravia with a good shot from mid-range and Kevin Méndez, from a free kick, gave the visiting charcoal burners the victory.

Peñarol won 2-0 in his visit to Cerro Largo closing his participation in the Clausura, where goals from Saravia and Méndez appeared to end a forgettable performance in the Uruguayan.

The game began with the arachanes trying to develop actions on the wings and seek to surprise behind the defenders in a duel of low intensity in its development.

The mirasoles tried to create football with the runs of Rossi and Mansilla, the latter even having a shot that went just wide over the ten minutes of action.

But everything was locked, the fight in the midfield area was intense and the inaccuracies caused the arrivals on the goals to be of little caliber.

And the parity seemed to be broken at 26 ‘when a long ball that found Rak badly stopped and Da Silveira could not clear, ended with Villar getting into the area and being lowered by Dawson for the referee to call the clear penalty. Adolfo Lima took over, finished off and Dawson flying over to the left of him covered it.

As if that were not enough, minutes later, Lima, who won the defender’s back, managed to connect his head but the goalkeeper won the leather again and Romero, who finished off after the rebound, did not hit the goal.

Ramos’ men reacted there, first with a shot by Mansilla that Lucero Álvarez managed to clear and then reaching the long-awaited goal at 37′. A good individual action by Rossi from the left, vibing and facing, ended in an assist for Rodrigo Saravia who stopped the ball and finished off from mid-range for the 1-0.

A goal that was the break of that first stage and that gave the capital team the advantage in their visit to Melo, just for being more effective.

The complement began uneventfully after ten minutes of few relevant actions, an aerial ball that Dawson went to look for above, ended with a defender who dislodged him in flight and fell hitting his head on the ground.

Moments of concern, primary care on the field and transfer by ambulance for routine checks, to the concern of all those present.

Already with Thiago Cardozo on the pitch, a corner that Miranda connected and Romero defined put the equality, but the line, with the endorsement of the VAR, canceled it for offside.

But the solution came from the bench of substitutes for those of Ramos. A run with Laquinta that ended with a foul called by De Armas, found a good shot from Kevin Méndez who passed through the barrier and made it 2-0.

From there to the close it was a few minutes between the little local football that could not find ways and the tranquility of the aurinegro to close the game and seal the farewell of the Closing and Uruguayan with a victory.

Peñarol’s 2-0 triumph over Cerro Largo that is of little use in a 2022 that showed a very meager face of the charcoal burners who even managed to qualify for the Libertadores.
