Penarol beat Colonia Square at the Suppici and added three points in a match where the only thing that could be redeemed for the “coalman” was the result, since there was little or nothing to highlight at stake.
The key to the aurinegra victory –and the only thing that made a difference- was a penalty awarded in their favor. Again Ceppelini scored the only goal “mirasol”, which ultimately gave victory to his team. The only emotion of the match was scored in the 19th minute through a VAR penalty. Facundo Kidd wanted to clear the ball and it hit his arm, so Ferreyra charged him after the VAR monitor showed images that convinced him.
Peñarol’s attack pieces were cold and disjointed. Laquintana and Carrizo were lost, Ceppelini never made a difference and at the top was the Canarian Álvarez Martínez, who lived in true solitude.
In the second part, Plaza Colonia tried a little more and had some option to do it with Barrandeguy and Ramiro Quintana. However, Kevin Dawson prevailed and prevented the fall of the bow from him.
Peñarol did not show a much different face from the first half and, in one of the lowest level matches of the tournament, prevailed as the winner.
With the victory, Larriera’s team is, for now, second in the tournament, in the absence of almost the entire date being played. The “coalman” tries to put pressure on Deportivo Maldonado at the top and links results that give him the option of becoming champion.
For its part, Plaza Colonia continues in a losing streak and ranks 14th in the table with nine points. A victory by Cerro Largo and Cerrito would leave the team from Colombia last in the table.
