Penal Forum registers 131 releases of political prisoners after #28Jul

Alfredo Romero, director of the Penal Forum, said that this Monday, November 18, the released political prisoners will go to court to impose alternative measures to deprivation of liberty. For the most part there is no full freedom. The Prison Observatory released videos about the release of adolescents

The Penal Forum reported that it has verified the release of 131 political prisoners, detained in the framework of the protests after the presidential elections of July 28.

The director of the NGO, Alfredo Romeropointed out this Sunday, November 17, that, in the early morning, there were other releases of political prisoners (post-electoral situation), including some teenagers.

The lawyer also maintained that the releases were made after the review of measures requested by the Public Ministry and announced by the attorney general, Tarek William Saab.

«Tomorrow, Monday, the released prisoners will go to court to impose alternative measures to the deprivation of liberty. We understand that for the most part there is not full freedom and the judicial processes continue,” said the director of the Penal Forum.

Romero broadcast a video about releases in Yare 3 (Miranda state) that occurred on Saturday, November 16.

«So far in Yare 3 only 26 people (adult males) have been released. More than 200 political prisoners are held there. In Tocorón, 86 releases have been verified. There, then, more than 800 people (adult males) are kept deprived of liberty for political purposes,” he indicated.

After the releases, more than 1,700 detainees remain for political reasons in Venezuela.

For its part, the Venezuelan Prisons Observatory (OVP) indicated this Sunday, November 17, that on the night of Saturday the 16th “five teenagers were released from prison in the state of La Guaira. The minors were arbitrarily detained in the context of the post-election demonstrations and should never have been behind bars. According to relatives, there are still four teenagers deprived of liberty.

The NGO demanded the full freedom of the detainees. The Observatory also recorded that, at 9 pm on Saturday, “the doors of the Pablo Herrera Campins Socio-Educational Center, known as the El Manzano checkpoint, were opened to release José David Crespo, 15 years old.”

After a telematic hearing, Crespo was released from prison under precautionary measures. «His cellmates said goodbye to him amidst tears and hugs. “The teenager left them a message of encouragement indicating that their freedom will soon come.”

However, the young man said he felt sad because he is still waiting for the freedom of his father, Israel Crespo: “He was arbitrarily detained along with the teenager and is in the Tocorón prison,” said the OVP.
