Penal Forum confirms release of political prisoners in La Crisálida, Tocorón and Yare III

The director of the Penal Forum, Alfredo Romero, reported that, since the early hours of this Saturday, November 16, political prisoners held in Yare III and Tocorón began to be released. They are all part of those detained during the post-election protests on July 28. Until 1 in the afternoon there were 70 people released from prison.

The non-governmental organizations (NGO) Penal Forum and Venezuelan Prisons Observatory (OVP) confirmed the release of several political prisoners held in the Yare III penitentiary facilities and the La Crisálida Training Center for Female Prosecuted Women, both located in the state of Miranda. Those released are part of those detained during the post-election protests on July 28.

According to Alfredo Romero, director of the Penal Forum, until 1:15 in the afternoon this Saturday there were at least 70 political prisoners released from Yare 3, Tocorón, Tocuyito, and La Crisálida.

After 9:00 am this Saturday, Romero reported, through his Twitter account, that political prisoners were also being released from the Aragua Penitentiary Center, Tocorón: «At this moment political prisoners are beginning to leave Tocorón (post-electoral situation),” he wrote.

In a publication on his Instagram account, Romero detailed that until 11:00 am they had “released (not full freedom) 50 young adults from Tocorón. We must remember that in Tocorón there are more than 900 political prisoners due to the post-electoral situation,” he noted. In another publication he detailed the names of 25 of the 50 beneficiaries of the measure applied in the Aragua prison.

For his part, the Committee for the Freedom of Political Prisonersreported the names of the first 14 political prisoners held in Tocorón to be released this November 16: Alí Antonio Silva Pérez, Yordan José Matos Vargas, Daniel Alejandro Velásquez, Henry Luis Almenci, Antony José Salmerón, Franklin Manuel Rodríguez Rivero, Diego Claret Salazar , Jhon Jesús Portiño, Iván José Laya Fría, Omar Dario Escalona, ​​Manuel Antonio Peña, Jesús Ramón Mata, Javier de Jesús López Navas and Roynis Daniel Gómez.

Meanwhile, the OVP reported the release of several women detained in La Crisálida. Until 10:00 am this Saturday, it had not been counted how many, but they did leave with precautionary measures. They also report on other possible releases in the Aragua Penitentiary Center, in Tocorón, and in the Carabobo Judicial Confinement Center, in Tocuyito.

Relatives of the political prisoners began to receive calls asking them to go to the Tocuyito, Tocorón, Yare II and La Crisálida prisons, the OVP detailed.

1,976 political prisoners

Last Tuesday the 12th, the Attorney General’s Office promised to accelerate criminal proceedings against adolescents and young people detained after July 28, after the ruler Nicolás Maduro requested to “rectify” if there were errors in the arrests during the post-election protests.
