Political tension in Uruguay reached new levels on Wednesday, when Romina Celeste Papasso Oliver, who he claims to be member of the National Partywas arrested while protesting against the visit of the President of Brazil, Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva, in Montevideo.
Papasso Oliver parked his vehicle at the corner of 18 de Julio and Ejidowith a National Party flag and speakers, from where he began to insult people and spat at a woman.
The nationalist senator Gustavo Penadés He referred to the incident in an interview with Underlined, in which he stated that, “as far as I know, no. He may be a voter or sympathizer, but as far as I know he is not a member of the political structures of the National Party”.
Penadés also pointed out that the incident is “regrettable” and that justice must determine if any law was violated. He added that Celeste “has every right to express herself,” but that she did not choose “neither the best place nor the best time to do it.”
Celeste’s arrest has generated great controversy in Uruguay, with many people calling for justice for the woman and others criticizing her actions. The case is being investigated by the Flagrancia prosecutor, Rodrigo Morosoli, and Celeste remains in custody while a psychological examination is carried out and the formalization hearing, scheduled for Friday, is prepared.

On January 24, on the official Twitter account of the political group Juntos por el Pueblo (JxP), @JXP_UYdirected by Papasso Oliver, a public statement was published in which it is stated that she is a member of the National Party, and that the aforementioned has pretense of being a candidate for deputy.
“After the note presented by our group ‘Together for the People’, which is part of the National Party, with its president Romina Celeste. The resolution adopted by the Montevideo Electoral Board in session was: the right to use the number 2424 (two thousand four hundred and twenty-four) to distinguish our next voting sheets in the next electoral acts, ”says this statement.
When entering the @Lista2424 account, the biography reads: “Together for the People. Romina Celeste Deputy”.
