Emilio “Tiki” Cubas, former senator and former member of the Governing Board of the National Republican Association (ANR – Colorado Party), analyzed the “political temperature” that exists in the governing party ahead of the upcoming presidential elections.
He pointed out that the elections have been defined since the campaigns began by the weight that the Government has on top and the candidates that support them.
“The red inmates are defined just as, within the Coalition, it is very difficult for there to be another actor other than Efraín Alegre. I believe that the presidential elections will be disputed between Peña and Alegre. I see that the Colorado Party is more concerned with killing each other than with giving people proposals, projects and hopes”, he pointed out.
Cubas questioned that the ANR authorities are focused on instilling fears instead of hopes. And with it, the two most important sectors are flagellating themselves.
“This makes party unity much more difficult. The great challenge will be to alleviate the betrayal that will possibly be carried out next year. The betrayal is going to occur due to the tone of the speeches of the people close to the Government and the responses of the actors of ‘Honor Colorado’. If you’re winning like Pena is, he should focus on looking for unity away from attacks. Dead dogs should not be kicked,” he commented.
For the interviewee, the favoritism enjoyed by Santiago Peña is due to the adverse economic situation that was experienced and continues to be experienced during the current government of Mario Abdo Benítez.
“It goes through the economic situation, people saw that in the previous government there was a better economic situation. They see that Peña had the conditions to manage the economy and he does not want five more years of this government characterized by impunity and corruption, “he said.
