The former Minister of Finance, Lea Giménez, reminded the presidential candidate Efraín Alegre that social policies cannot be replaced with money and that the school lunch program proved to be a complete success in educational institutions.
“Efraín Alegre’s proposal to eliminate school meals not only demonstrates his ignorance of social policies, of the National Constitution, but also a lack of empathy with Paraguayan families and children,” according to the opinion of the Former Minister of Finance, Lea Giménezthrough a video released in response to Soledad Núñez, candidate for Vice President for the Coalition and duo of Efraín Alegre.

“Dear Efraín, I remind you that the National Constitution in its article 54 grants the State the responsibility of protect children from abandonment and malnutrition. In its article 75, it grants the State the responsibility of ensuring the provision of nutritional supplement and of school supplies to low-income children as part of their right to education,” he said through a video.
He further highlighted that “Social policies are not replaced with money”, since there is evidence that shows that the school snack was effective in reducing school dropouts, increasing enrollment and ensuring school attendance. “This It’s been a successful program.”
However, he recognized that there is much room for improvement and to prevent unscrupulous people take advantage of this program. “Let’s not allow the ignorance and callousness of a candidate spoil such an important social achievement of Paraguay,” he finally stated.
