Last Monday, Santiago Peña, presidential candidate for Chartism (“Honor Colorado” – ANR), stated that “Cartes is not the only important piece in Honor Colorado”, with this increasing rumors that there would be a division between the pre-candidate and the former national president.
Mauricio Espínola, private secretary of Mario Abdo Benítez, said that there are rumors that the Chartism campaign advisers recommended that Peña not get too close to Horacio Cartes.
“It is logical what happened to Marito when he was a candidate on list 1 when he embraced Horacio Cartes, with a practically 20% advantage over Efraín Alegre, he ended up winning only by 5%. I always say it’s the anvil hug,” he said.
He pointed out that there are also rumors that there are problems due to leadership disputes between Santiago Peña and Pedro Alliana. I think that Pedro Alliana, because of his great democratic spirit, will be the one who will hug Wiens after the internal ones. Peña does not want to respect Alliana’s leadership, so there is a division everywhere, as there is this request from the advisers that Peña distance himself from Cartes.
“Of course Cartes is no longer letting go of the wallet. There is a structural problem on the other side between Santiago Peña and Pedro Alliana due to the lack of respect for the militancy of the latter. And there is also a financial problem because Cartes is no longer releasing what he used to collaborate for the campaigns, ”he commented.

Clara Martínez, a political scientist, expressed for her part that it is a communicational move that responds to a strategy to capture votes. “I think what they are looking for is to capture votes from sectors of the ANR.
