The Vice President of the Republic and current candidate for the Republican Force movement launched a strong criticism of his political opponent Santiago Peña on Radio Ñanduti and maintained that “he is a person who responds exclusively to the orders of his boss.” He also stated that according to the polls “they are growing” while the numbers of the candidate for the Honor Colorado movement “go down.”
Likewise, he maintained that the one who governs the country is Mario Abdo Benítez and not him, since it is said that the president is seen as a “vase” because Velázquez is supposedly in command. He also added that he promised to avoid any problems with the president. “Santi Peña has been a candidate for 7 years and I started in October with 8 points against 58. Today our numbers say that we are 23 to 41, so we are going up quickly and they are going down,” he said.
Finally, he highlighted his commitment to the Paraguayan people, a fact for which he maintains a good relationship with President Abdo Benítez. Regarding polls that favor Santiago Peña over his candidacy, he stressed that the position of both figures since November should be analyzed comparatively, thus seeing that Peña is decreasing.
