Going over all the articles enshrined in the National Constitution, the son of Efraín Alegre came up against criticism of the Coalition’s position for denying accreditation to journalists from Grupo Nación Media to cover the general elections.
“The Nation is offended because we do not allow them to lie from our PC. They can lie throughout the rest of the country, when they want and as many times as they want, we only exercise our right not to lend ourselves to the farce of the MAFIA media,” Efraín Alegre Irún, son of the candidate for the presidential election, wrote on his Twitter account. These expressions triggered a wave of criticism of the position of the Concertación of denying accreditation to journalists from Grupo Nación Media in the context of press coverage of the general elections on April 30.

Refusing to accredit a medium is refusing that people who trust that medium can access information of public interest”, replied the lawyer Ezequiel Santagada, in clear repudiation of the position of the Concertación and the claim of Alegre.

Santiago Ortiz, general secretary of the Union of Journalists of Paraguay, expressed himself in the same sense, who pointed out that The position of the National Concertation to deny accreditation to journalists from Grupo Nación Media affects the right to information of citizenship.

The union representative added that Hopefully the Coalition will review the position and clarify the situation. “It is shocking, because one expects a presidential candidate or political force to be tolerant of criticism. That is the value of democracy and we expect that commitment from the people who run for office”, he stressed.
