"Pemex stole Christmas": doctors continue protests for fair bonus

the demonstrations

Shouting “it’s a bonus, not a tip”, the Pemex resident doctors protested on Wednesday, December 21, 2022 at the agency’s central offices, located on Avenida Marina Nacional in Mexico City, and at five other hospitals in Veracruz, Tabasco, Oaxaca and Tamaulipas.

In addition to the demand for a fair Christmas bonus, residents denounced threats and harassment from Pemex personnel who tried to control the demonstrations.

Upon arriving at the parastatal headquarters, the residents were promised that their demands would be met, but they were not received by any authority.

“They told us that they were going to receive us to negotiate the situation, sit down to talk and be able to solve this problem. Unfortunately, like many of the things our company has done, it was a simulation. They put us in the lobby, we were talking with some people and the only thing they wanted is for us to stop making our peaceful and public demonstration that we are doing for the payment of our Christmas bonus. Whenever you want to stop pretending, we’ll wait for you out here. We are resident doctors and we know how to do a guard. Here we are waiting for you”, said one of the doctors during the protest.

Dialogue with the authorities

The case of the Pemex resident doctors who demand a fair bonus reached the morning conference on Thursday, December 22. From Chetumal, Quintana Roo, President Andrés Manuel López Obrador said that he was unaware of the situation, after a journalist asked him.
