The National Union of Petroleum Technicians and Professionals denounced a series of “unjustified dismissals” of Pemex workers with up to 30 years of seniority.
During a demonstration held at the Pemex Tower facilities, located in Mexico City, the members of the union demanded that federal authorities reinstate their colleagues and suspend layoffs or job modifications that affect personnel affiliated with said organization.
“We demand that, in a tripartite manner – the administration and services management, the business line and the union – the necessary actions be taken to ensure that the company has organizational structures appropriate to the operational reality, which allow it to function efficiently, increase its productivity, take advantage of its human capital and respect at all times the labor rights of the professionals who make up the union,” they expressed.
They requested that work tables be opened in which the group participates to review and analyze the organizational structures of the company by work centers. “We also ask that the administration management refrain from continuing to carry out practices that violate union freedom and representation.”
Guillermo Alfonso Briceño, secretary of labor of the union’s Mexico City section eight, pointed out that at the beginning of this year Pemex began a restructuring process – the 2025-2030 Strategic Plan – that includes unjustified dismissals, changes in assignments and modifications to the working conditions of technical and professional personnel, including workers with more than 20 and 30 years of seniority.
He indicated that, “under the pretext of the internal restructuring process,” the service administration and legal departments of Pemex “have forced workers to sign documents waiving their rights. Those who have refused to sign said resignations have been unjustifiably dismissed. These serious violations of labor rights have even been applied against professionals with more than 30 years of service in the company.”
