Pelé has been discharged after recovering from a urinary infection. Now he will continue with the treatment of the colon tumor that was detected last September, as reported by medical sources on Monday.
Pelé was discharged last Saturday from the Albert Einstein Israelite Hospital in Sao Paulo, where he had been admitted since February 13 to sequence colon cancer treatment, according to his medical team in a statement. According to the note, Pelé was forced to extend his stay at the São Paulo capital’s medical center after get a urinary tract infectionfrom which he is already “cured” and so he was discharged over the weekend.
“The patient is in stable clinical conditions, already cured of his urinary infection, and will continue the treatment of the colon tumor, identified in September 2021,” said the medical bulletin released by the hospital. On August 31, the triple world champion with the Canarinha (1958, 1962 and 1970) was hospitalized in that same clinic to perform routine tests that he had postponed due to the coronavirus pandemic and in which the tumor was detected, for which he underwent surgery a few days later.
Since then, Pele has undergone chemotherapy sessions that have routinely landed him in hospital, which has generated endless rumors about his state of health, which the former player himself has had to publicly deny on several occasions.
In addition to the tumor, Pelé’s health has deteriorated in recent years due to various spinal, hip and knee problems that have reduced his mobility and they have forced him to go through the surgical center.
