Pedro Vásquez, a year in captivity: “In poor health, poorly fed and without medical attention”

Norma Vega, wife of the prisoner of conscience, in an interview with Article 66, lamented that the dictatorship of Daniel Ortega persists in keeping Vásquez imprisoned. “They spoiled the dreams of a man who earned his living as a humble driver, a very responsible father with his family, a hardworking man who earned his daily bread,” he denounced.

She also explained that during the eighth visit to her husband, in a year, she was able to verify that colon problems, high blood pressure, joint pain and dizziness continue to affect her.

“Today he is in poor health, poorly fed, without medical attention and his emotional, physical and psychological state is worrying,” denounced the opponent’s partner.

The Ortega justice accused Pedro Vásquez of being a necessary collaborator for the crime of laundering money, property and assets in the case of the Violeta Barrios de Chamorro Foundation (FVBCH). After a marathon trial of seven hearings, the Ninth Judge of the Criminal District of Managua, Luden Martin Quiroz Garciasentenced the prisoner of conscience to seven years in prison.

The political prisoner was sentenced together with Cristiana and Pedro Joaquín Chamorro Barrios; Walter Gómez, administrator; and Marco Fletes, financier of the FVBCH, which closed due to the imposition of the registration regime under the Foreign Agents Law.

According to Norma Vega, her husband worked for 30 years as a driver for Cristiana Chamorro, he did not work for the Foundation, however the dictatorship of Daniel Ortega attacked her and involved him in the accusation against his employer.

The opponent’s partner continues to demand his immediate freedom and that of the more than 190 political prisoners who remain imprisoned by order of the regime.
