Punta Cana. – The Dominican Federation of Municipal Districts (FEDODIM) He focused on unity and ratified Ramón Santos for the fourth time as president and Dr. Pedro Richardson for the eighth time as executive director of the entity, within the framework of the XIV Formative and Electoral Congress that took place in Punta Cana under the motto “Tourism as a tool for local development”.
The event was led by the president of the Dominican Municipal League, Víctor de Aza, and the executive director of FEDODIM, Dr. Pedro Richardson, who praised the importance of the 253 municipal districts, since, despite their high degree of rurality, they concentrate the greatest sources of income and potential for the economic and sustainable development of the country.
On his side, Ramón Santos thanked his counterparts for the trust he received in continuing to lead the federation’s destinations during the 2022-2024 period and praised the holding of this meeting focused on encouraging tourism, a sector that in recent years has become in the main support of the Dominican Republic.
The delegate affirmed that, according to a recent report, the growth of the Gross Domestic Product (GDP) registered a significant increase, supported by an important percentage coming from private activities linked to tourism, which have also contributed 573,000 direct and indirect jobs. at the national level.
“It is important to highlight that the main tourist attractions are located in the municipal districts,” said Santos when inviting the 253 local governments represented in the federation, to take advantage of the effort that the central government is making to promote these benefits and strengthen the economies of these territories.
The also mayor of Los Botados, Monte Plata province, took advantage of his main speech to condemn the violent act in which the Minister of the Environment, Orlando Jorge Mera, was assassinated, assuring that said death significantly changed the rhythm of the country, after the loss of who he defined as a man of integrity, simple, efficient official and affable treatment.
