President peter castle will go to testify before the National Prosecutor, Patricia Benavidezthis August 4, as investigated in the case of the alleged irregularities in the promotions of the Armed Forces and the National Police of Peru (PNP) if your rights are guaranteed.
This was stated by Eduardo Pachas, one of the president’s lawyers, who accused the head of the Public Ministry of pretending “cut rights” of Castillo Terrones for “vacalo” of the charge.
“The president, according to law, will answer as long as due process is guaranteed and there is no guarantee here, there is an ambush. To all the citations he’s gone […] has responded to the Public Ministry in accordance with the law”he expressed.
“[¿Esta vez va a responder?] In the same way, but we will ask that something be guaranteed: due process, the right to defense and not to ambush him. It cannot be that a prosecutor assumes and from her first speech, without having read a single file, she says that she is going to remove the President of the Republic”he added.
It should be noted that in December 2021, the president declared before a deputy of the National Prosecutor, whom he received at the Government Palace, for the Case Promotions as a witness.
Subsequently, on June 17 of this year, he testified before the then National Prosecutor, Pablo Sánchez, as being investigated in the Tarata Bridge Case.
As recalled, the National Prosecutor’s Office expanded the preliminary investigation into Castillo Terrones opened as a result of the statements of Mariano Gonzalez for his dismissal as Minister of the Interior.
Initially, the investigation of the president was only for the crime of personal concealment, but the Public Ministry determined that he should also be investigated for the crime against public tranquility in the form of criminal organization.
Having this condition, the investigation period was adjusted to 36 months, counted from last July 20, the date on which the investigation was opened. The initial period was 60 days.
