The President Pedro Castillo indicated that in the next few hours he will give an answer on the request for resignation from the militancy of Peru Libre requested by said political group. “I am very grateful to Peru Libre for having welcomed us in this contest that has led us to victory in the framework of this campaign,” said the president.
Likewise, he called on the other congressional benches and political forces to work together and specified that critical moments are going through due to the pandemic and the agrarian emergency.
“In the next few hours I am going to give an answer, understanding that Peru is above all else. From here I call on all political forces to agree and work for democracy […] We cannot entertain ourselves with other topics,” he told the press.
This happened at the end of his participation in the mass held in the Cathedral of Lima for the Day of San Pedro and San Padro. The president, in addition, was in Chorrillos during the morning for an activity with artisanal fishermen.

Peru Libre asked Pedro Castillo to resign from his militancy
Last Tuesday, June 28, through an official statement, Peru Libre announced that they unanimously decided to ask President Pedro Castillo to renounce his party militancy.
As they point out, the decision would have been taken by the party, the political commission and the ruling party, considering that the behavior of the current president would have gone against the statutes of the group.
In the opinion of the members of the pencil party, the responsibility for the debacle suffered in the Hemicycle falls directly on the figure of Castillo, whom they point out as having “invited” dissidence within the caucus, as well as “promoting the registration of two parallel political parties” in the interior of Peru Libre.
Félix Chero assures that Castillo will resign from Peru Libre before he is expelled
The Minister of Justice announced that the president will choose to resign from the Peru Libre caucus before he is expelled. “I believe that the President of the Republic, knowing his way of acting, is immediately going to present his resignation letter because he does not need to be kicked out of the party,” he told Exitosa.
Likewise, when asked about the rupture of the pencil party with the head of state, the head of the Minjus considered that this does not exist as such, since the presence of the leader of the political organization in Executive decisions has not been perceived.
